Past Royalty 2015

Our 2015 King was born in Malone New York and raised in Saranac New York. He attended Saranac Central Schools. He earned his degrees from New York State Ranger School in Wanakena, New York, and Plattsburgh State University.He has volunteered with Pack 9 Cub Scouts as a Den Leader, with Boy Scouts Troop 1 as an Assistant Scout Master and a merit badge counselor. He also served on the Harrietstown Planning Board. He volunteered with the Saranac Lake Red Storm Running Booster Club for the Cross Country and Track teams. Volunteered at the Saranac Lake Summer Fun Run Series. He has volunteered many years for the Lake Placid Ironman and is currently a co-captain of the bike handlers. He is currently the Vice President of the Adirondack Track and Field Officials Association.He served as President of the Ranger School Alumni Association, as well as a past member of the St. Bernard’s Parish Counsel. He is a member of St. Bernard’s Church and serves as a Eucharistic Minister.He has been a member of IPW since 1983, and has served with Winter Carnival Committee in many capacities such as co-chair of the inner tube races, as well as, the Winter Carnival Characters, and in the early 90’s was a volunteer photographer during the parade.He is an Adirondack 46er. He is employed with the New York State Department of Corrections for over 36 years, and currently the Superintendent of Clinton Correctional Facility and serves as the Clinton HUB Supervising Superintendent. He is the eldest son of James and Grace, the brother to Peter, Gerilyn, Chris, Joe, Greg and Alexine. He is the father of DJ and Sam, and is married to Cherie.

Our 2015 Winter Carnival Queen was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, New Jersey. She graduated from Radford University in Virginia with a degree in Primary and Elementary Education. She arrived in Saranac Lake in 1972 and has been volunteering ever since. She is a past president and member of Saranac Lake Women’s College Scholarship Club, volunteer for the Saranac Lake Library Book Fair, a volunteer for First Night, a member of the Community Lunch Box, a member of the Community Store Marketing Committee, and a Board member for Historic Saranac Lake. She is a volunteer for Grace Pantry, a Chapter President for Beta Mu, Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a honorary international organization of Woman Educators.She has taught in Saranac Lake as a teacher in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, except for 2nd grade, including the gifted and talented classes in Lake Colby and Petrova Elementary Schools. She retired in 2011.She is a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She is the daughter of Edwin and Ruth Simgleton and the sister to Nancy, Marcia, Robert and Scott. Her children include Karina, of Waltham Massachusetts, Trevor of Hamden, Connecticut, and Timothy of Denver, Colorado. She has one grandson, Luca. She enjoys following her children’s lives with great pride.Since retiring she is enjoying exploring new places, wandering through museums, reading, baking and dabbling in drawing and painting. She is especially happy spending time with family and friends.

Jack LaDuke was born in Keeseville, NY to French Canadian parents with a family history dating back to Quebec in the mid-17th century. Mr. LaDuke is a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy, Toms Rivers NJ and holds a degree in History from Madrid University, Spain.LaDuke with his wife Marina Roy, moved to Saranac Lake in 1978 when he became Audio Visual Director for the Lake Placid Olympics. For thirty years he was the NY Bureau Chief with WCAX-TV, Burlington VT. He also served in the Navy Air as a photographer. An unexpected telephone call from the U.S. State Department led to a three-year assignment in Central America. In El Salvador he trained young Salvadorians to shoot still photographs and motion picture film for a new educational television network the country and the U.S. government were establishing. Although LaDuke is retired, he still regularly produces video stories about the Adirondacks for Mountain Lake Journal, PBS, in Plattsburgh and carries out frequent photography assignments for the Plattsburgh Press Republican. He is a member of the Saranac Lake Historical Society, the Lake Placid Hall of Fame Committee and Golden Retriever Rescue. Jack was recently inducted into the Vermont Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He has also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Boston’s Emerson College and won an Emmy for a story on working with horses at Paul Smiths College. He also had a gallery exhibit of his photographs at BluSeed Studios in Saranac Lake. Jack LaDuke has a long history of capturing the surrounding community through his camera lens and sharing our local stories with the world. The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee is pleased that he will participate as this year’s Grand Marshal.

Having spent over half her life joyfully skiing, hiking and swimming in the region, our archbishop proudly calls herself an Adirondacker. Raising three “outdoor cat” sons has kept her and her husband, Kevin, busy, but she continues to find time for her students and all the athletes she has coached through the years. Her primary job is as the Earth Science teacher at the high school. She is always excited to share the secrets of this place called Earth and her high level of energy also propels her in her various roles as mentor, adviser, teacher and coach. When she’s not in school, you can find Linda helping the Saranac Lake Ski Club at Mt. Pisgah or running the NYSEF desk at Whiteface and occasionally timing races at Whiteface or even Mt. Van Hovenburg. Always a fan of Winter Carnival, Linda is looking forward to a special week full of fun and frolic.

Jason Smith was born in Oswego Hospital on a cold February morning in 1976. Jason would spend his childhood in a modest, yellow house just a few blocks down from that very hospital. His father, John, is an eccentric college professor of communications; his mother, Jean, is a professor of children’s literature. Jason’s brother, Owen, is a very successful stand-up comedian in Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, Jason has no relatives in all of the North East. Jason enjoyed playing sports in high school, but also spent much of his time in the Art Room, drawing and painting. He thought that he would go to college to become an environmental engineer, but changed his mind when he realized how much math was involved. Jason majored in English Literature at SUNY Plattsburgh, where he met some of his best friends. Currently, Jason lives in Saranac Lake, NY with his wife, Mary, and two daughters, Tessa and Althea. He is a Middle School ELA teacher and loves just about every minute of it. Helping kids learn how to think more creatively, write more expressively, and learn to love the power of books are just a few of the more enjoyable parts of Jason’s job. Jason is so thankful to have been picked to be Chamberlain. There are few towns as special as Saranac Lake, and not just because of an ice castle, a winter parade, or a list of local characters that seem to be as important to the energy of the town as the mountains are. No, it is because the people in the town are a family, and even though all families have their quarrels and disagreements, they still have love, and honor. To have been selected as Chamberlain was a phenomenal feeling of that honor for Jason and, again, he says, “thank you.”

Prince MarSyi F. Foster was born in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Walter E. Stebbins High School in Riverside, Ohio. He will graduate from North Country Community in December, 2015 with a degree in Business Administration. Prince Foster would like to take his degree and talents to work for a major sporting goods manufacturer or own stores of his own at some point. Mr. Foster plays on the NCCC Basketball Team, has volunteered at a homeless shelter, for Kids Night Out, and at last year's Winter Carnival. He also referees sporting events. Mr. Foster enjoys sports, meeting new people, and attending local events and fairs. Prince Marsyi is the son of Wayne and Latonya Foster and has siblings MarRay, Mario, MarQuez and Latonda.

Princess Caitie Mack will graduate from Paul Smiths College in May, 2015. She is a recipient of the Joan H. Weill Scholarship, the Provost Scholarship and the WS Sullivan Scholarship and has been on the Dean’s List. She will have the credits to graduate with a double major in Natural Resources Sustainability and Natural Resources Management and Policy. She will also earn minors in Business and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Caitie expects to pursue a career emphasizing natural resource sustainability. Ms. Mack was Freshman and Sophomore Class President, Secretary of Students for Environmental Action Club, has been a student speaker at open houses and on various campus committees. She also is a member of the Paul Smiths College Women’s Soccer team. Caitie enjoys reading fiction, crocheting and traveling. Princess Caitie was born in Elysburg, Pennsylvania and graduated from Southern Columbia Area School District. She is the daughter of Margo & Harold Kase and John & Diane Mack. She has a brother Wyatt.

Katelyn is the daughter of Richie and Rachel Hewitt and the sister of Justina, Jonathan, Alison and Carter. She has participated in soccer, basketball, track and rugby during her high school years. Currently, she is in the New Vision program and hopes to enroll in a nursing program next fall. Katelyn wishes everyone a happy carnival!

Jack is the son of Beth and Bob Martin and the brother of Sam Martin. He plays football and baseball, is in the fall play and the musical and is a member of the National Honor Society. Next year he plans to attend the University of North Carolina, Wilmington to pursue a degree in cinematography. Jack is honored to be on Winter Carnival Court and hopes to see everyone with a big smile and groovy dance moves throughout the Winter Carnival.

Claire is the daughter of Caroline Hambley and Addison Bickford and the youngest sibling to Aidan and Celeste. She is the president of the Student Council and a member of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the soccer team and the ski team and enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors. Claire is honored to be a member of the 2015 Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a Carnival of Funk and Fun!

Gabe is the son of Cathy and Chris Woodward and the younger brother of Patrick. Gabe plays football in the fall, hockey in the winter and lacrosse in the spring. In his off-time, Gabe loves to ski, bike or do anything outdoors. He is pleased to be on the Winter Carnival Court and wishes all a happy Carnival!

Ann is the daughter of Beryl and David Mader and younger sister to Sarah and Carolun. Anna has participated in the high school musicals, Key Club and cosmetology. She enjoys spending time with her amazing friends and family and working at the Popcorn Store. Anna plans to attend college in the fall where she will pursue a career in fashion merchandising. She is honored to be a Court member and wishes you all a groovy Carnival!

Ty is the son of William Marmion and Lori Bearce and the stepson of Kyle Bearce. He has an older sister, Savanna, and is looked up to by his younger siblings, Luke, Steven and Dayna. Throughout Ty’s high school career he has played many sports including rugby, lacrosse, and is the proud captain of the varsity football team. Ty plans on attending college this fall to major in criminology. He is honored and psyched to be on Winter Carnival Court and wished everyone a safe and happy Carnival!

Talia is the daughter of Daryl and Sherry and the sister to Kayleena, Austin and Marisa. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the secretary of the Key Club and the senior class vice-president. Talia also plays soccer, basketball and runs track. She was a page during the 2006 Winter Carnival and is honored to be part of the royal family again. She wishes everyone a happy Carnival!

Kilian is the son of Deb and Mike Ryan and the younger brother of Erin Ryan. Kilian plays football in the fall and lacrosse the rest of the time. Next year, Kilian plans on attending college to study architecture while also following his dream to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. Kilian is honored to be a member of the 2015 Winter Carnival Court and wishes all a great Winter Carnival!

Abbi is the youngest daughter of Linda and Waguih Kirollos, and proud sister of Ami and Ania. Abbi is the president of her class and of the Key Club and is also a member of the National Honor Society. She is honored to have been selected as a member of the 2015 Winter Carnival Court. She is particularly excited to show off her sixties dance moves! Abbi hopes everyone has a safe and groovy Carnival.

Jeremiah is the son of John and Cindy Barge and the baby brother of Elizabeth, Jonathan, Aaron and Ethan. Jeremiah played soccer in the fall, is now on the alpine ski team and is planning on playing lacrosse in the spring. He is also a member of the Art Club, the Outdoor Club and is participating in the high school musical. Jeremiah is considering studying renewable energy and playing soccer at Clinton Community College next year. He hopes everyone has a great Winter Carnival this year!

Allycia is the daughter of Paul and Gail. She is also the sister of former 2013 Court member Kaileigh. Allycia has participated in many high school activities including skiing, being captain of the soccer team, lacrosse and being treasurer of Student Council. She plans to attend college in the fall, but is undecided on a major. Allycia is excited and honored to be a part of Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a happy and safe carnival.

Ethan is the son of Carol and Gordon Sawyer and the brother of Carley. He has enjoyed playing golf, hockey and soccer for the Red Storm. He is a member of National Honor Society and student council. Ethan will be attending Robert Morris University in the fall to study actuarial science and to play golf for the Colonials. Ethan is honored to be part of this year’s Winter Carnival Court and would like to wish everyone a great Carnival.

Jacinda is the daughter of Katie Doebler and Erik Riggs. She is a member of the Alpine ski team and the outdoor track team. Jacinda also attends BOCES for cosmetology. She is the secretary of the Outdoor Club and actively finds ways to help improve our school and community. Jacinda is honored to be a part of the 2015 Winter Carnival Court. She hopes everyone has a “hip” Carnival and enjoys the festivities to the fullest.

Anuj is the son of Paresh and Pragna Prajapati and the older brother of Eshna. He has participated in sports, clubs and various school activities over the last four years. After high school, Anuj plans to attend college to study computer science. He is overjoyed to be part of the 2015 Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a groovy Winter Carnival.
