Past Royalty 2020

Our 2020 Winter Carnival King was born in Sloan, NY. The son of Anna and Michael and has lived in Saranac Lake for over 40 years. He served in the United States Navy. Our King attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine, graduating as a Physician's Assistant. Among the other colleges, he has attended is SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. In the past, he was an umpire for Saranac Lake Youth Basketball, a volunteer for High Peaks Hospice, Literacy Volunteers, and Habitat for Humanity. Currently, he volunteers with First Night Saranac Lake, Lake Placid Ironman, Out of Darkness and the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association. He delivers Meals on Wheels and Adirondack Health. He has been an Usher with Pendragon and LPCA and acted in the first Pendragon musical. During Winter Carnival he assisted with the Youth Skating races for many years, served as a parade judge, a gift shop helper, a carnival character and a parade participant. He enjoys kayaking, cross-country skiing, and traveled extensively through the United States and Eastern Canada both on his motorcycle and with his kayak. He promotes Saranac Lake Winter Carnival wherever his travels take him. He is a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. He has served this parish in numerous capacities, one of them being Deacon. He has been married to his brilliant wife, Beryl for over 49 years. Together they have three children: Nissa and her husband Erik, Joshua and his wife Carrie, and Rory and his wife Amanda. He has five grandchildren, Braydon, Kayla, Phoebe, Olivia, and Kevin. He is a brother to Robert, Thomas, Valentine, and Delores. Our 2020 Winter Carnival King is JOSEPH SZWED.

Our 2020 Winter Carnival Queen was born in Saranac Lake and graduated from Saranac Lake Central School. She served in the United States Air Force, as a jet engine mechanic, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
Our Queen attended North Country Community College and graduated with a degree in Business. Her volunteering spans many years and many organizations. She is a member of St. Bernard's Church, serving as a lector and Eucharist Minister. She served in many capacities at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale. She coached girl's softball for many years. She has served many years on Overlook Senior Housing Board. She is a long-time member of the pee wee hockey association serving in many capacities. Has been a life long member of the Saranac Lake Civic Center Board of Directors. She has been a member of the Saranac Lake Woman of the Moose for over 20 years. She has earned her degree in Academy of Friendship, with the Moose Club. Has served on the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department Woman's Auxiliary. She enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, golfing or just sitting around a bonfire in the Summer. She likes to skate and snowshoe in the winter. She retired from Adirondack Park Agency and has been keeping herself very busy ever since.
She has been the Tax Collector for the Town of St. Armand since 2006. She is the daughter of Tim and Mildred and has five older brothers and sisters. She is a member of the infamous class of 1974. Our Queen has been married to Rick for over 42 years, they have three children, Jason and his wife Jennell, Ericka and her husband Cameron, and Christie. She has six fabulous grandchildren, who call her Bamma: Michael, Dylan, Heath, Jacob, Rory, and Andrea. Our 2020 Winter Carnival Queen is NANCY HOWARD HEATH!!!!

Sally is a non-native of Saranac Lake having been born and raised in Carmel Valley, California.
Moving here in 1981, she and her husband Bill raised their 3 wonderful children, Anna ( S.L. Class of 1994), Caroline (S.L. Class of 1997) and Joe (S.L.Class of 2002) who is an integral part of building the Ice Palace. Sally was hired as the attendance secretary, secretary to the Dean of Students and Athletic Director in 1988, where she worked for 30 years retiring in 2018. She enjoys traveling, reading, singing tenor with the First Presbyterian Choir and hanging out with her Lab, Buddy. Sally is the proud G'ma to Ethan, Hailey and Jayne. Sally is extremely flattered and honored to have been chosen by the Court to serve as Chamberlain of this year's Carnival.
She wishes everyone a safe and fantastic Winter Carnival and she can't wait to hang out with high school kids again!!

Tom was born in December 1954, the third child of Bunnie and Joe Catillaz. He attended St. Bernards, St. Pius, North Country Community College, and SUNY Geneseo. Tom was a member of the Lions Club, holding most all of the positions in the club. He is currently a member of the Village Board and has been for 18 years. Tom was also the past Mayor of Saranac Lake for 7 years. Tom has 3 children, Mallory, Thomas and Zachary, and lives with his spouse, Joann. He is employed at Hyde Fuel in Saranac Lake.

Peter was born in Tupper Lake a long time ago, one of nine children of Jim and Susie Frenette. He grew up playing sports, but it was in college he found his favorite game, rugby. He would come home on summer breaks and play with The Mountaineers. After graduating he frequently traveled back and forth between Tupper and Saranac, first to play rugby and then attend Winter Carnival and other events. It was sometime in the mid-eighties when he decided that he was too tired after playing rugby to go home and Saranac Lake became his new home. He met an awesome girl named Jennie and was soon married. Saranac Lake was a good compromise between Tupper Lake and Long Island so they stayed here. Together, with the help and support of this community, they raised Gracey, Peter, and Annie. They now have the added benefit of a beautiful granddaughter, Nell. Peter loves the outdoors. He spends his time hunting, golfing and skiing. He considers skiing the best present his parents ever gave him. He started teaching at the middle school with a head full of curls and was soon know as Mr. Fro. After 18 wonderful years at the Middle school, he left for the high school with no curls and a new nickname of Mr. No Fro. He now teaches Driver Ed, where each morning he starts with a prayer to Elon Musk to please perfect the self-driving car. He has enjoyed teaching and coaching thousands of children in Saranac Lake, some who don't even know his real name. Peter has some royalty heritage as his godfather, Frank Camelo is a past King and his daughter Annie was a page and was on the carnival court. She has advised me of what to do and not do during carnival week. He is both honored and excited to be chosen by this year's court and as an added bonus he gets to wear this awesome hat.

Hayden is a senior at Paul Smith's College.
He graduated from Harborfields High School on Long Island. Hayden is the son of Stephen and Kimberly Uresk, and the brother of Kailey. Hayden will graduate in May with a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resource conservation. He would like to pursue a position as an environmental educator. While attending Paul Smith's, Hayden has been an ambassador for Admission for 2 years. He was the Vice President of the Osgood Primitive skills and Homesteading Club.

Olivia is the daughter of William and Kerry White, and the sister to Ava. She is a student at North Country Community College, graduating May 2020, with a degree in Nursing. Olivia has played volleyball for North Country, was the President of the North Country Drama Club, and serves as the treasurer of the LP Nursing Club, for 2019-2020. Olivia has done a great deal of volunteering in Lake Placid and believes that the amount of volunteer hours you do is not as important as being sure to make a difference in other people's lives. She has been on many mission trips to help repair homes in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, West Virginia, Utah; with plans to visit Reading, Pennsylvania. She will be doing her first international trip to Siem Riep, Cambodia. Olivia loves to spend time with family and friends. She is undecided regarding future plans but definitely plans to continue doing mission trips, to help others.

Francine is the daughter of Rick and Ara Newman, sister to younger brother Chase. Francine is very active in both her community and school. She volunteers and participates in local events as secretary of National Honor Society, President of Habitat for Humanity, and as an avid member of the Key Club. She is also involved in cross country, Spanish club, and Green Storm. After high school, Francine hopes to pursue environmental studies in college, inspired by her desire to preserve the natural beauty of the Adirondacks. Francine is honored and excited to be a member of the 2020 Winter Carnival Court and would like to thank Saranac Lake for this opportunity, and wishes to everyone the happiest of carnivals!

Camden is the son of William and Brandee Reiley and the older brother to Kaylen Reiley. Camden is a four-year, three-season athlete and co-captain of the section VII champion varsity soccer team. He also plays varsity hockey and tennis he is a freestyle skier and the USSA east coast athlete representative for skiing. Along with these sports, he participates in the National Honor Society, Green Storm, Youth Climate Summit, Key Club, and French Club, as well as playing saxophone in the high school jazz band. Camden is enrolled in the New Vision medical program, volunteers at the Adirondack Medical Center and plans to pursue a career in medicine at college. He would like to thank all his friends and teachers for supporting him to be part of the 2020 Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a great carnival.

Nora is the daughter of Teresa Buckley and Thomas Glover. Nora volunteers at the Young Life camp on Upper Saranac. She is the varsity basketball captain and participates in volleyball. Nora plans on majoring in early childhood education and minoring in special education next year. She is so thankful to be part of the Winter Carnival Court and can't wait to be a part of this magical tradition.

Gabriel is the son of Joseph Faubert and Nathalie Sanford. He is the president of his senior class, and a four-year, three-season athlete that enjoys playing soccer, indoor track, basketball and outdoor track for the Saranac Lake Red Storm. After high school he plans on attending college and majoring in criminal justice. Gabe is extremely honored to be part of the 2020 Winter Carnival Court and thanks his family for all of their love and support. He wishes everyone a happy carnival.

Madelyn is the daughter of John and Robin Gay, twin sister of Katelyn and older sister to twin siblings Emily and Andrew. Madelyn is the granddaughter of Donalda Maple Gay, first ever queen of the Winter Carnival in 1948. Madelyn is the captain of the varsity volleyball team and participates in hockey and softball. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, Madelyn plans to attend college to become a high school math teacher with hopes of becoming a high school principal one day. She is very excited to be part of the 2020 Court and hopes everyone has a very happy winter carnival.

Ben is the son of Bryan and Kara Pandolph Munn, and great-grandson to Chuck Pandolph, the first local King of Winter Carnival. He is the brother to older sister Madelynn and to younger twin brothers Nicholas and Brayden. Ben is a three-sport athlete playing football, hockey and baseball. In his free time, Ben enjoys fishing and being with his family. He plans to attend college after high school.

Olivia is the daughter of Thomas Bell and former Archbishop Christine Bell. She is also the older twin sister to Molly Bell. Olivia is involved in Key Club and select women's ensemble. She is a three-season, three-sport athlete and the captain of the varsity soccer and basketball teams. Olivia plans to attend college this fall. She is very honored to have been selected for Winter Carnival Court this year and would like to thank her family and friends for their support. Olivia hopes everyone has an amazing carnival.

Patrick is the son of Nicol and Jason Wamsganz and big brother to Anika and Lydia. He enjoys giving back to his community. He has volunteered for high school graduation parking, Ironman and highway clean up. He also enjoys playing sports and a long list of hobbies. Patrick plans on attending a four-year college in the fall and playing soccer. Patrick wishes everyone a safe and happy winter carnival.

Emily is the daughter of Kristy Lanthier and Ben Muncil, sister to Hanah and Owen. Emily is planning on attending college to study psychology. Emily runs indoor and outdoor track and participates in multiple extracurricular activities including secretary of key club, secretary and co-founder of pep club, president of the yearbook club, vice president for Model UN, and a part of women's ensemble. Emily is thankful for all the support from her family and friends and is extremely honored to be a member of the 2020 Winter Carnival Court.

Jacob is the son of Christine and Milton Adams, brother to Matthew, and lives in Lake Clear. Jacob is a three-sport athlete including, soccer, indoor track, and lacrosse. He is also involved in National Honor Society and outdoor club. Jacob plans on attending college for mechanical engineering. He is honored to be part of the 2020 court and wishes everyone a very happy carnival.

Sylvie is the daughter of Vanessa Houghtlin and Walter Linck, sister to former court member Elodie, younger brother to Daven and dog Millie. She is a member of Key Club, Green Storm, Nation Honor Society, Women's Ensemble, and President of Student Council. She is a member of the Cross-Country team, and a captain of track and Nordic skiing. She also loves canoeing, camping, swimming, and everything outdoors. She is honored and excited to be part of this year's court and wishes everyone a happy winter carnival.

Griffin is the son of Zoe and Jason Smith, and the older brother of Ruby. He is a three-season athlete who runs cross country in fall, Nordic skis in winter and runs track in spring. He is also active in the music department and numerous school clubs. Griffin is planning on attending college in the fall of 2020. He is honored to represent his community and school in this year's Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a happy carnival.

Molly is the daughter of Thomas Bell and former Archbishop Christine Bell. She is also the younger twin sister to Olivia Bell, by two minutes. Molly is a four-year member and currently Vice President of Key Club. She is also co-founder and Vice President of the pep club and a member of the select women's ensemble. She has run cross country for six years and spring track for four years. Molly plans to attend college this fall. She is grateful to call the Adirondacks her home and honored to have been nominated by her peers and teachers for the 2020 Winter Carnival Court and wishes everyone a happy carnival.

Dylan is the son of Craig Amell and Jennell Heath and the younger brother to Michael. He is a four-year, three-sport athlete who enjoys playing soccer, hockey, lacrosse and high jump in track. He plans on attending college in the fall. He is honored to be chosen by his peers to be on this year's Winter Carnival Court. Dylan hopes everyone has a safe and happy carnival!
